After a long hiatus, my mother finally trudged on over to her closet to hand-pick her loomed beauties. Each of the vintage tablecloths shown on this blog were bought through vintage venues such as estate sales, garage sales and of course, the electronic marketplace, Ebay.
As with clothing styles, tablecloth styles were ever changing due to color and motif fads. Typically most of my mother’s tablecloths date from approximately circa 1930s to the late 1950s.
The most popular patterns were generally florals. You will often find boughs of statuesque hollyhocks to dainty daisies in a rainbow of colors. I swear these tablecloths have more flowers than a flower shop or a meadow.
My mother’s favorites are the whimsical, clever and kitschy motifs such as flamboyant, wildly-hued fruits to cheeky french chefs.

Romantic Rose
Demure sprays of roses with soft blue leaves in a ring formation flock this pretty tablecloth. The background color is a clean, snowy white. The roses are gently entwined within a rose-colored lattice that makes ones mind ponder the simplicity of yesteryear. I’m sure this tablecloth gave the owner’s dinner table a romantic, homespun country vibe.
